Homeland security is an issue dear to Bruce Blakeman’s heart for a number of reasons.

He has an advanced certificate in Home land security from Long Island university and was commissioner for the Port Authority in New York and New Jersey. Mr Blakeman also tragically lost his nephew Tommy Jurgens during the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. So Blakeman has shown over many years this is an issue that he feels passionately about.

He is equally passionate that we are tough on terrorists and looking after our country’s security is the number one priority and not the rigts of terrorists. We need someone like Blakeman who is more concerned about looking after American citizens rather than the rights of those people who seek to destroy our country. He was disgusted that a thirteen story mosque was to be put at the site of ground zero and rightly thought it was disrespectful to those who died in those attacks. This is particularly crazy considering the area has a very small Muslim population. This appears to be America acquiescing to the terrorists.

Blakeman also does not believe terrorists should be tried at a civilian court especially in a major city. This just invites reprisals in the cities that host these trials. It also gives further publicity to these terrorists and its this publicity that they use to gain more recruits. Starve them of the oxygen of publicity and give them a trial on a military base away from major cities.

I know from personal experience as commissioner of home land security at the port the challenges our country faces every day from these terrorists. We must be strong and robust in the defence of our nation and not back down in any way. The security of our citizens should be any governments top priority and you need people in the Senate who have experience and understand the challenges this brings. Blakeman’s experience and success in this field is there for everyone to see.

He gets my vote any time.
